Sail Haven Boat Maintenance Work Session #10 Wrap Up

Saturday awoke to a foggy morning. No breeze and you could cut the fog with a knife. From the Boathouse platform we could not see the 600' tanker docked at Grand Terminal, less than quarter of a mile away. Long Wharf Pier loomed in the fog, barely visible.  11 intrepid folks showed up to clean, paint and otherwise ready our fleet for sailing.

We accomplished the following:

  • We rolled the Carolina Skiff, Thing Two, on her side and washed her to ready her for bottom paint.
  • We washed the bottom of Flying Scot 3, to ready her for bottom paint.
  • We named Flying Scot 1 "Dred". Thanks to Matt Haiken for getting the most votes in our 2023 "Name the Scots" contest.
  • Raised Flying Scot 4 off her trailer and painted her bottom.
  • Mounted the new gooseneck brackets on the six 420 masts.
  • Reassembled the Sunfish rudders and tillers. they had previously been varnished.
  • Two of the previously received shallow water markers were flawed. The vendor shipped in two new marks last week. They were labeled as "Shallow Area" marks, and attached to the waiting ground tackle. All four are now ready to be deployed in the harbor!

Much thanks to Steve M, Moss P, Daniel R, Leanne D, Steve H, Anthony L, Miriam, Matt H, Lex L, Tom G, and Joel Z.
