Remote Control Model Boat Informal Racing Fall 2026

Tuesday mornings from 10am till 12:30pm.

We realize week day mornings are mostly just for retired folks, but if you feel like playing hooky from work or school, we will be out sailing, come join us!

Sail Haven's “Remote Control (RC) Model Boat Racing Spring Series” is the perfect way for members to boost their sailing skills while enjoying some friendly competition. As you navigate around other boats and master the racecourse, you'll find your sailing becoming more instinctive. Whether you're teaming up or competing against friends, the thrill of the race is undeniable.

We’ll be sailing Dragon Flite 95s, also known as DF-95s . The are 95cm in size (37.5"). All are welcome to join in the fun, no racing experience required. All participants will be asked to help in the Race Committee Boat, again no experience required. Scores may or may not be recorded.

We have a good number of members private boats, and we have four Sail Haven Fleet boats. Most of our participants will be sharing their boats with fellow Sail Haven Members!

No RSVP required to race - just show up.

The season runs roughly April through November, with actual start and end dates depending on the weather. We're on the water Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 6:15am. Saturday mornings at 7:00am, with a coach on the water working with rowers at every level. Elm City Rowing is part of the New Haven Community Boathouse and we are dedicated to creating opportunities for New Haveners to enjoy rowing on the harbor.

Join the New Haven Community Boathouse Youth Fall Sculling Program for an exciting opportunity to learn and develop sculling skills on the water! This comprehensive program combines both on-water training and land-based conditioning to provide a well-rounded rowing experience.

Program Highlights

Boat Types: Participants will have the opportunity to scull in single, double, and quattro shells, allowing for both individual skill development and team building experiences.

Schedule & Eligibility

Experienced Scullers: Monday & Friday from 2:45-4:15 PM
Everyone: Sunday from 8:30-10:30 AM

Experienced scullers include those who have participated in NHCB summer clinics, prior Fall/Spring programs, have gig rowing experience, and have interest in potentially competing in a local regatta in October.

Enrollment Details

Class Size: Limited to 14 students per session to ensure personalized attention and safety
Cost: FREE for New Haven Public School students
Deposit: $50 refundable deposit required for program participation
Deposit Refund Policy: Full refund available in the first week of November for participants who attend at least once per week

Prerequisites: Sail Haven Membership.

Four classes, Saturday mornings, 10am-1pm.

Please note: if you’re unable to make the first lesson in a course you will be rescheduled into another course.
The third class of this series takes place on Sunday morning October 4th, due to the Dragon Boat Festival at the boathouse on Saturday morning, October 3rd. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Sail Haven's “Fun Fall Racing Series” is the perfect way for members to boost their sailing skills while enjoying some friendly competition. As you navigate around other boats and master the racecourse, you'll find your sailing becoming more instinctive. And even if you don't win, those moments of brilliance on the water can be incredibly satisfying. We’ll be racing Lasers, Sunfish and 420s. All are welcome to join in the fun, no racing experience required. All participants will be asked to help in the Race Committee Boat, again no experience required. Scores may or may not be recorded!

Racing will be Saturdays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm we will run as many races as possible, so please come, even if you are late. The series will be six Saturdays.

Plus ones and family: The venue is child friendly, so feel free to bring +1s or family.

Parking: There is a parking lot and street parking available at Armada. If you would like, there is also a column on the spreadsheet for those who would like to self organize carpooling.

Please note that the venue unfortunately does not have an elevator.
